Hampshire Alert want to send you a quick message relating to burglary over the festive period.
We’re working hard to prevent, detect, and solve burglaries this Christmas. We'll be highlighting investigations, arrests, and charges where we can. Don't let an opportunistic thief spoil your festive fun We’d like to take this opportunity to remind our communities of the following crime prevention advice. Shopping: • Before you go out, double-check that your home is secure and that all windows and doors are properly locked and secure with keys out of sight. • Wherever possible park in a secure car park or in a well-lit spot and make sure that your vehicle is locked. • Avoid leaving your purchases and presents or other valuables on display in your vehicle whilst out shopping or outside your home. • Consider crime prevention when buying gifts, for example does a bike come with a secure ‘D’ lock? At home. • Don’t advertise your gifts to burglars and leave presents in view of a window. • Register valuable gifts for free at immobilise.com. • Think about how you dispose of packaging for expensive goods and don’t leave it on display outside of your property. • Make your home look occupied wherever possible. Closing curtains and using timer switches for things like lights or a radio can help to deter opportunistic burglars as it gets darker earlier in the evening. • Double check that any devices like alarms, security lighting, or video doorbells are in good working order. • Ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your home if you are away visiting family or friends. Make sure you cancel deliveries like milk and that parcels won’t be delivered outside your front door while you are away. For more advice: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/protect-home-crime/ Colleagues at Action Fraud have launched their annual campaign to help us all have a Fraud Free Christmas this year. They say, “Criminals don’t stop for Christmas and will continue to operate, targeting busy people who are preparing for the festive season.”
Hampshire & IOW Constabulary receive an average of 200 reports a week with a total weekly monetary loss averaging £2.5 million. We know that's the tip of the iceberg as a lot of fraud goes unreported. As a result, we're supporting Action Fraud's campaign, details of which can be found here: Make sure you have a #FraudFreeXmas: Action Fraud reveal 12 fraud types to look out for this Christmas | Action Fraud or https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/news/12frauds If you've been affected by a crime please contact Victim Care Hub for free, confidential support: Home - Hampshire Victim Care Hub (hampshireiowvictimcare.co.uk) or phone 0808 178 1641 If you would like to report a crime anonymously please contact: Independent UK charity taking crime information anonymously | Crimestoppers (crimestoppers-uk.org) or phone 0800 555 111 Hampshire Alerts is not a crime reporting portal – please do not report crime here. Otherwise, report online, or find out about other ways to report a crime at: Report a crime | Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary Thank you – Fraud Safeguarding Team Along with our Cyberhood Watch partner, Avast, we are launching the latest Cybercrime Survey which will help us understand the impact of online crime and scams on our members. There's also the opportunity of winning some very useful M&S vouchers!
Enter now The findings of the survey will be used to inform the ongoing Cyberhood Watch awareness initiatives and help our Cyberhood Watch Ambassadors. It will also draw attention to important topics which will help everyone protect themselves - and their loved ones - from cyber criminals. The survey will close on Friday 15 December - we'd really love to hear your views and of course, we will load the report onto our website once it is available so you can take a look for yourself! Thanks in advance for your support in the fight against cybercrime in the UK. This survey is designed to capture your views on increasing the level of council tax in support of policing, to ensure continued investment in Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
The biggest pressures on police budgets are police officer and staff wage increase, reopening police stations, and the cost of police cars and uniforms. Whilst inflation has decreased over the last 12 months, recruiting, training and equipping new police officers are increasing. This year, the government announced a 4.75% pay rise for police officers and the same for police staff. Whilst the government has provided additional funding to assist with some of the cost of the pay award, there has been no additional government support for non-pay expenditure which I must fund. For the last financial year, the increase in council tax funded the recruitment of 75 more police officers, in addition to the 50 extra officers I pledged in 2022, and the 600 officers pledged when I was first elected as Police and Crime Commissioner in 2021. Over the last three years, I have ensured the force is able to recruit an additional 725 police officers. The public have unequivocally told me they want to see their local officers patrolling their beat, and they want to be able to walk into their local police station. With your support, I hope to strengthen neighbourhood policing with my Local Bobby scheme and ensure officers can respond quickly in your time of need. By the end of the year, I would have opened seven more police stations to the public, with more to come in 2025. How much you want to contribute to policing for the next financial year helps me ensure the police delivers the service you expect. Your views on where you want your money to go and which crimes matter to you the most, is vital. That’s why it’s so important that you have your say by completing this short survey. The survey will close at 11.59pm on Monday 16 December 2024. https://survey.alchemer.eu/s3/90762943/Precept202526 |
