Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many people have been able to spend a lot of time in their gardens. We have seen some fantastic looking gardens and spaces while taking our daily exercise and therefore Councillors have decided it would be a great idea to have a Hound in Bloom competition.
If you are interested in taking part, the closing date is Friday 28th August, however you can submit at any time via the official form. This can be found along with all of the categories and rules here.

As we have been asked many times in the past to inform companies when we’ve had previous sponsorship opportunities, this is a gentle approach to all businesses in the local area to see if they are interested in supporting us with these upcoming competitions. The ideas so far are: Hound in Bloom (a number of different categories) Tallest sunflower and Heaviest sunflower head Best/Most creative Christmas decorations/lights We appreciate that times have been tough for some businesses and want to assure you that we are not looking at large contributions or prizes, but feel that this could be a great opportunity for local advertising and being involved in local events. If you wish to discuss this further, please contact the Clerk on [email protected] for further details. Through the partnership between Eastleigh Borough & Southampton City Councils on sustainable transport projects, there are aiming to run some bike workshop sessions during June. The Bike Dr sessions are delivered by the Hub Cycleworks and Monty Bike Hub, they normally use one van or cargo bike and a gazebo, and have the necessary Public Liability Insurance in place. And at the moment they also have additional hygiene and social distancing measures in place.
We would like to thank and congratulate all of the entrants who took the time to decorate their houses and/or gardens, to bake a cake or cupcake and for being creative in submitting an online video. We have created a video to commemorate all of the entries - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_E7avWKfg5E&feature=youtu.be
Councillors have now finished judging all of the entries and are delighted to announce the winners of our VE Day 75th Anniversary Competition. The best decorated house and/or garden 1st - Michelle Main-Miller 2nd - Karen Solis Velasco 3rd - Paul McHugh & Lisa Joscelyne The best decorated cake and cupcakes 1st - Kathryn Dunn 2nd - Pam Ermisz 3rd - Zoey Elliott The most inventive/funny/original sketch (online video, ie YouTube, Tik Tok etc) 1st - Lianna Deacon 2nd - Emelia Chapman We only had 2 entries in this category, so gave the third place to the best decorated house/garden due to the large number of entries. • Use of sites is only for essential disposal of waste whereby storing such waste causes a risk of injury or to health • As per government guidelines, residents in the specified vulnerable category (those who are clinically extremely vulnerable, people over 70 and pregnant women) are strongly advised not to visit a site • Restricted numbers of vehicles will be permitted to access the site at any one time and site staff will enforce this at the site entrance. • There will be staff at the entrance to each site, wearing a body camera, to manage the flow of vehicles. Security staff will be deployed at all sites and there will be a zero-tolerance approach to any form of abuse. • New temporary barriers will be in place at the entrance to each site and used to mark out new parking arrangements with site staff guiding vehicles, from a safe distance, into spaces • As far as possible, only one person per household should visit the HWRC. • Due to social distancing measures, site staff will be unable to provide any assistance with unloading material or carrying material. Residents are asked to bring only the amount of waste they can comfortably carry and empty into containers • Trailers are not permitted. Enforcement of social distancing on site means severely reduced capacity for manoeuvring trailers. Vans should be bringing no more waste than that which would fit in an average saloon car boot • Everyone must always keep at least a two-metre distance from others at all times. • Sites will accept all waste material streams, except for chargeable waste – soil, rubble, asbestos and plasterboard. However, some processors have shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic and it is likely that some materials outlets may not be available in the short term. Please check the website before your visit to check if any specific material is not able to be accepted temporarily. • Reuse sales areas will remain closed. Where possible, please continue to store items of furniture which could be reused, donate to local furniture charities, or use online platforms (e.g. Freegle / Facebay / Gumtree). Please see the Smart Living website for more information on furniture reuse. IMPORTANT NOTE: The start date for the HWRC vehicle registration scheme has been postponed in light of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. However, the online vehicle registration system remains open in readiness for implementation later this year
