Local Support Options During Covid-19 Pandemic

As we are currently in a period of uncertainty with the current Covid-19 pandemic, we have been working closely with a number of local groups and organisations to try and ensure that everyone has some support, especially the vulnerable members of our parish. 

It is incredibly heartening to see the local Facebook group spring up which is showing the best of our community. Please do have a look if haven't seen it yet (Type 'Netley Abbey Community Corona virus Support Group' into the search bar in Facebook). It has many examples of people offering to help and pull together to ensure that we get through this difficult period and it should always be remembered that as contagious as this virus is, so is kindness and generosity. If everybody just gives a little bit, we should hopefully all be okay and as a community, come out of this stronger. We strongly encourage all those who are able to do so, to assist each other - whether that be family, friends and/or neighbours. 

However, we have been extremely worried about how we reach the most vulnerable members of our community and ensure that they are safe, have support and all they need and require, especially if in isolation (whether self imposed or due to illness). So, please find below the many fantastic local groups and organisations who have stepped forward to offer assistance:

• St Edwards church, the Annunciation church and Netley Christian Fellowship will be working with their congregations to ensure that all support is provided to them, especially their more vulnerable members. You can contact each of them if you wish to by:

• St Edward’s church is happy to offer a phone service to anyone who is living alone or requires it via their pastoral service and by volunteers who have been DBS checked. Please contact them directly on 02380 456778 or [email protected]
• We are liaising with the Hound Basics Food Bank who are open as normal at this time:
  • Referral via GP’s, Social Services, Citizens Advice Bureau, Health Visitors and Schools

• We are Liaising with Beacon Good Neighbours who can be contacted on 0845 0948768 
• We are liaising with the local Co-op to support those vulnerable people and ensure where possible we can try and deliver them food
